Project Manager – Geoscience Australia

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to assist Geoscience Australia in delivering the Aged Care reforms.

The role

The Project Manager, Indo-Pacific Data Hub Establishment, will provide commercial project management for the establishment of Geoscience Australia’s Indo-Pacific Data Hub infrastructure.

The Indo-Pacific Data Hub project aims to deliver a commercial cloud-based storage and distribution solution for petabyte-scale volumes of free and open satellite Earth observation data to users in Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. Data sources will include, but not be limited to, the United States’ Landsat Program and the European Commission’s Copernicus satellite program.

The solution will include, but not be limited to, the provision of services such as data ingestion and cataloguing, users access systems, data management tools, ongoing development, transition and quality management, routine maintenance, patching and security maintenance, and the provision of user support.

Development of the Indo-Pacific Data Hub will leverage the lessons learned through the development and operation of the existing Copernicus Austrasia Regional Data Hub operated by Geoscience Australia.

In this role you will:

  • Work with relevant domestic and international partners and stakeholders to identify and document technical,operational and service level requirements for Indo-Pacific data acquisition, storage, and distribution infrastructure.
  • Develop appropriate project documentation, including plans, schedules, budgets and reports.
  • Ensure there is technical complementarity and integration between the Indo-Pacific Data Hub and other elements of GA’s technology platform (including analytics platforms and ground station reception systems).
  • Draft approach to market documentation for the procurement of design and prototyping services, and operational and infrastructure services, ensuring stakeholder and executive buy-in
  • Provide and coordinate support to APS staff for tender evaluation and contract negotiations including drafting of contract documentation in consultation with central areas.
  • Ensure planning for, and delivery of, a smooth transition to operations including for Initial Operating Capability and Full Operating Capbility.

 To be successful in the role you will:

  • Have extensive experience in managing technical procurement projects and programs in government and industry
  • Possess exceptional problem-solving skills to arrive at solutions for system and project improvements
  • Have excellent people skills, strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, alongside commitment and exceptional communication abilities

Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

  • A record of achievement in delivering commercially provisioned technical projects and programs in government and industry, and the provision and presentation of trusted professional advice to senior management.
  • Experience in projects/programs involving large scale data management and digital infrastructure development, and the engagement and management of commercial cloud solution providers.
  • Our ideal candidate will have experience with and/or qualifications in internationally recognised program and project management framework such as MSP, PRINCE2, or PMBOK.
  • Familiarity with satellite-based Earth observation data would be highly desirable.

Contract Term

The contract is for a non-ongoing term of 6-months. The Contract will include 2x 6-month extension options.

Eligibility
